Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk is a Hearthstone player from the Netherlands who raised the HCT EU Spring trophy last night following a seven-game thriller against Russian player Iner. The consistency of Thijs helped him bag another accomplishment. During the EU Spring playoffs, the Netherlands roster defeated Turna, Loyan and Iner with a score of 12-6 altogether. This made ThijsNL the single repeat regional champion in the history of games.
The Dutchman is the first player in Hearthstone to participate in all the three EU championship. He defeated Yevgeni “Neirea” Shumilin in 2015 in Prague. This was done in front of the crowd and ThijsNL won a major Blizzard trophy. This achievement helped him qualify for the Blizzcon 2015 finals where his journey ended during the semi-finals by the ultimate champion Sebastian “Ostkaka” Engwall – this was regarded as the highlight series of the year.
Last weekend, ThijsNL begun the Spring EU Championship as the undisputed favorite irrespective of being among other esteemed contenders like Esteban “AKAWonder” Serrano as well as Simon “Crane” Raunholst. In his current tournament appearances, the G2 player seems to be struggling but did show perfect performance where it mattered. However, he lost in the group stages of CN vs EU Season 3 and StarLadder Season 2.
Thijs’ has been qualified for the Blizzcon finals two years consecutively due to his victory in Los Angeles. This lets him join the little club of repeat Blizzcon finalists, till last night only composed of Hak-Jun “Kranich” Baek.
In comparison, Iner’s runner-up finish made up for another intense performance for the CIS region with respect to HCT European Championships. During winter, Kazakhstan’s Naiman and Ukraine’s DrHippi were the ones who battled for the championship, with Naiman taking the trophy home.
