Dota 2 Canada Cup’s 7th Season

Dota 2 already boasts multitudes of tournaments and leagues, ranging from regionals to global scale events. Quite a handful of leagues spawned recently and many of these were aimed at rising teams providing them more platforms and exposure. The Dota 2 Canada Cup is an open tournament that any team can sign up for. And it just released the dates for the 7th season.

This year’s Dota 2 Canada Cup will be featuring a little bit of a format change to make things more exciting. The prize pool remains the same impressive $20,000, that can go up. The qualifiers for the seventh installment of the cup will commence on the 23rd of April. 2016.

To make things bigger, much bigger, Dota 2 Canda Cup 7 has decided to partner with FACEIT in order to be able to hold large scale qualifiers. And when we say large scale, we mean no less than 256 slots large scale. Now this grants opportunity for teams that probably wouldn’t be able to receive invites to invite only cups. That said, it’s going to be a hassle filtering through 256 teams.

The format for the qualifiers is going to be a rigid best of one, single elimination, with 32 games being played every day. For the 24th of April after the first round, the match ups will be 16 round, best of three games.

The cup has offered to allow fans and the community to choose whether or not the group stages will follow the GSL format. If so, there will be no ties. The top four from the open qualifiers will move through to the GSL stage and later, the playoffs. The GSL stage will begin on the 26th of April and carry on till the 12th of May.

CompLexity Gaming, Digital Chaos, Infamous, and Shazam are 4 teams of 12 that have been invited to play the tournament.
